Animal Crossing: New Horizons flower list

Before getting started with the flower breeding process, it makes sense to cover all the flower types available in New Horizons. Here’s what we know so far.

Carnations: Breed white. Cosmos: Breed pink, orange and black. Dandelions: Can’t breed. Jacob’s Ladder: Can’t breed. Lilies: Breed pink, orange and black. Pansies: Breed orange, blue, red (special), purple, orange (special)Roses: Breed pink, purple, orange, black, red (special), blue and goldTulips: Breed pink, orange, black, purple. Violets: Breed pink.

The basic versions of these flowers can be bought in seed packs at Nook’s Cranny or his basic shop. To plant flowers, just buy them, stand over the spot you’d like the flower to be planted and select the flower bag in your inventory. To transplant, just dig them up with a shovel and plant them again the same way.

In order to make the most of your new flowers, though, it makes sense to have the right tools for the job. For the most part, all you really need is the Watering Can. The Flimsy Watering Can does just fine at managing 1x1 squares of land, but true flower enthusiasts should get the recipe for the standard Watering Can, which sprays a wider area at once. To get that recipe, spend 3,000 Nook Miles on the “Pretty Good Tools” set at the ABD.

The Watering Can requires a Flimsy Watering Can plus one Iron Nugget. To get Iron Nuggets just hit a rock with an axe or shovel. You should be able to get at least one nugget per day just from the rocks around your island.

How to breed hybrid flowers

Now that you know the basics of flower planting, it’s time to breed them. The process is actually really simple. As seen in this picture, all you have to do is arrange a 3x3 grouping of flowers like so. Think of the arrangement like the dots of a five on a standard die. Make sure to leave an empty space in between your plants, because that’s where its offspring will spawn. The color of the hybrid you get depends on the colors of the flowers situated next to each other. In this example, the row of red and white roses on top is most likely to spawn pink roses in the center.

Here are the basic rules of coloring.

As with most natural breeding processes, there’s ample room for variations and randomization. Here are some of the more adventurous and lucrative combos.
